For this step, you'll need to complete three Starhorse bounties. Weekly bounty completions from Starhorse give additional progress for this step. You can obtain Starhorse bounties from the Starhorse NPC at Xur's Treasure Trove at the cost of a few Strange Coins per bounty. Each of these challenges will require kills using a certain weapon or ability and a point threshold you'll need to reach during a Dares of Eternity match . Daily bounties require 160,000 points, while weekly bounties require anywhere from 180,000 to 300,000 poi

Hunters could always fall back on Golden Gun—just as Warlocks have Well of Radiance and Titans have Ward of Dawn—but it's become less sought after ever since Titans received the Cuirass of the Falling Star Exotic. Now, Titans can dish out slightly more damage than Golden Gun in a single slam that also kills nearby targets. Most LFG teams now look for Titans to fulfill the DPS role Golden Gun used to fill, even if Golden Gun is much safer to use.

Most builds in Destiny 2 have a hard time functioning with how limited our armor slots are. Helmets require ammo finders, arms need Champion mods, chests need damage resistance (DR), legs need ammo scavengers, and the class item typically fits expensive Artifact mods. PvP players have a little more room for experimentation, but PvE players have to spec for these things to have a smooth build for the endgame. If you don’t believe me, run a Grandmaster Nightfall without any DR mods and see how far you get. Run a Master Lost Sector without any ammo finders and see just how inconsistent ammo drops are. These mods are meta for a reason.

So there I was, stuck between using Golden Gun or switching to my Titan. I ended up using my Golden Gun Hunter in a stubborn attempt to prove that Hunters can still pump out great damage. We did not defeat the Templar that night.

Hunters are supposed to be Destiny’s take on space cowboys and bounty hunters, and the first Destiny 2 beginner Guide reflected this well. Hunters had mobile Supers, a mix of ranged and utility melee abilities, and the Nightstalker’s Shadowshot Super doubled as excellent crowd control and Super regeneration for your team. When all else failed, you could also rely on invisibility to get yourself out of trouble.

That’s one hell of a laundry list. Even if a newer player somehow has all of that , you’re going to need armor with enough upgrades to fit all of those mandatory mods. Unless you can Masterwork your armor—the reason you’d be running Master Nightfalls in the first place—you’ll also be limiting which weapons you can use since these Orb-generating mods only work for certain damage types. Unfortunately, that might not be the worst part of this change.

An additional change Bungie announced is the reduced cost of changing the elemental affinity of Masterworked armor. If you want to change the element of your helmet from Arc to Void, it’ll only cost some Glimmer and an Upgrade Module. This alone is a great change, but veteran players like myself wonder if this is the Monkey’s Paw at work.

Destiny has never followed the MMO holy trinity—tank, healer, and DPS—for balancing its classes. Bungie instead relied on flavor and minor mechanical differences to give each class an identity. Warlocks are space wizards that manipulate their abilities to gain unique benefits. It’s why they can consume grenades to gain buffs, convert Stasis grenades into ice turrets, or use their melee to activate a life steal effect. Titans are space marines that act as immovable objects. Instead of relying solely on space magic, Titans wield their fists and use more physical tools like barricades to stay alive.

The reality is that Destiny 2’s free-to-play experience is a demo, not a free game. You get to experience a short quest in the Cosmodrome, play Destiny 2’s ritual activities that are in dire need of better reward incentives, and try out the Prophecy dungeon. That’s it. The worst part is this wasn’t always the case. When Shadowkeep first came out, free-to-play Guardians had access to three raids and single-player narrative campaigns atop of what’s currently available. Shadowkeep’s version of New Light was a small slice of the core Destiny 2 experience. Beyond Light’s version is a platform to sell DLC and nothing else.
