Avowed appears to take place several hundred years before Pillars of Eternity , based on the medieval technology seen in the trailer compared to the early modern tech used in Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2 . In theory, this could mean that the entire plot of Avowed takes place without the player character ever realizing that the gods were created in Engwith, though that seems unlikely considering the story of Pillars of Eterni


Unlike The Outer Worlds , Avowed also needs more enemy variety, and more ways to deal with non-essential NPCs beyond mowing them down in great numbers. The game could also do with a fully fleshed out crafting system. The more roleplaying variety the player is offered in Avowed , the bet


Having a smaller cast of well-developed companions also makes some other elements likely to appear in Avowed . It’s more likely that players will have a base where they can find all of their companions who aren’t currently following them, for example. Through Avowed , Bethesda could be presented with ways to address some of The Elder Scrolls ' most common criticisms without lifting a finger. If Avowed doesn't end up presenting solutions to Skyrim 's common criticisms or feel like it drags the first-person RPG formula into the current generation, it's unlikely to be much of a threat to The Elder Scrolls 6 anyway. Although The Elder Scrolls 6 is a very high-stakes endeavor for Bethesda, Avowed could reveal at least part of the path forward, even if it only manages to improve on a few aspects of the form


Even hostile interactions can present multiple non-combat roleplaying opportunities. A gang of bandits in Skyrim will instantly try to kill the player regardless of whether they’re dressed like a travelling merchant or are standing head-to-toe in Daedric armor and carrying a bow made of dragon bone.
