"What If?" is a powerful question in any fandom, sometimes leading to headcanons of unique events, changing character arcs, and creating radically different worlds. Oftentimes, though, these questions are complex and out there. For example, Marvel's What If...? series asks "What if T'Challa Became Star-Lord" or "What If The Avengers Assembled in 1602?" With Dune 's premise around the Kwisatz Haderach and abilities such a prescience, it's a good franchise to ask "What If?" about. Instead of something complex, however, the upcoming survival MMO game Dune: Awakening keeps it simple: What if Jessica did not disobey the Bene Gesserit and had a female child instead of P
More than anything, Dune Awakening Guide: Awakening 's open world is already incredibly immersive. The sound of a sandworm moving across the landscape is chill-inducing; the ambiance of the expansive desert makes it feel almost too real at times; and the sheer size of everything brings the world of Dune , which has largely only been read about and seen on this level, into an interactive experience unlike anything e
Coriolis storms will also occur with very little warning, upon which players need to find shelter in a rock formation, their base, or infrastructure of some kind in order to avoid succumbing to it. Players will receive a warning that a storm is approaching, but that leaves them with maybe around one minute to find somewhere safe. Fortunately, by the time they experience their first one out in the wild, they should have their own base construc
Utilizing defensive stances, parries, gap-closing abilities, and stamina management, you'll impact every fight instantly, and it takes a lot of strategy to actually be good at it. If souls-like combat is your jam, you'll enjoy being a swordmaster the most, and Dune: Awakening makes the class enjoyable to p
This isn't just your regular soldier-type class; you'll be manipulating gravity in the heat of battle, slowing, stunning, or lifting your enemies into the air while tossing grenades into the mix. I also love the focus on weaponry expertise as it makes your experience as a highly-skilled trooper feel more immersi
While it isn’t clear if working with the Harkonnens in Dune: Awakening is required, it does seem like building bases in the desert is a major part of the game. While I’m willing to suspend my disbelief for the sake of gameplay and ignore how unlikely that safely building such structures would be on Arrakis, I’m still not so enthusiastic about actually doing it. Being an outsider building bases on Arrakis feels very **counter-intuitive to the major anti-colonial message the Dune series communicates
The only customization caveat is that things like armor will need to at least maintain their core appearance for the benefit of other players in a PvP context - players can change the color of heavy armor, for example, but not make it look like light armor. In a broader sense, players will also have a lot of say in the composition and aesthetic of their home base and how they choose to traverse the land. Transportation like ornithopters and groundcars will be at their disposal, and designing elaborate bases to then sell the blueprints is highly encoura
In an interview with PC Gamer , Creative Director, Joel Bylos pointed to a " single point " that Funcom changed while working closely with the family of Dune author Frank Herbert, which was a major catalyst in the original story. While he didn't elaborate on what this exact moment was, he did reveal that many characters who died early in the Dune story are alive and can be interacted with in Dune: Awakening , including Duke Leto Atreides.
Dune: Awakening also features shielded enemies that are a bit of a nuisance to deal with, especially for those who prefer a ranged playstyle. Shielded enemies take almost zero damage from attacks, but executing a Slow Blade attack (essentially a charged attack) can not only deactivate their shields but also often kill them in the proc
I think the replayability potential we're seeing with Dune: Awakening is off the charts, and I'm excited to see what kind of hybrid characters the community comes up with! Share your builds in the comments and stay tuned for more coverage on Dune: Awaken
Spice plays a major role in Dune , so it logically does in Dune: Awakening as well. Players will be able to enter entire Deep Desert regions dedicated to acquiring Spice, but both factions obviously want this resource. Players will need to construct bases, acquire Spice, get it safely, and otherwise face others in PvP over this valuable resource. There will be environmental conditions, story elements, and plenty of gameplay tied to acquiring Spice, but it's also where Dune: Awakening truly comes into its own as an MMO. Once a week or so, a Coriolis Storm will sweep through these areas - destroying everything both sides have constructed and acquired. A new location will open up, and the fight for the Spice begins a
